Little Kids BJJ

Ages 3–6

Little Kids BJJ (Gracie Lineage) — Anti-Bullying Starts Early

Bujutsu was affiliated with team Norton BJJ, which Professor Richard Norton, a 6th Degree Black Belt, founded. Professor Norton is the man who brought BJJ to Australia. Richard introduced Chuck Norris to the Machado brothers and played an essential role in helping the Machado family establish itself in the BJJ world. Chuck Norris described him as the most all-around martial artist he had ever met. Professor Norton passed in 2025 at the age of 75.
After the passing of Professor Richard Norton, Team Norton BJJ ceased to exist. Sensei Mark, affiliated with Tactical BJJ and also with the Jiu Jitsu Global Federation, which is headed by Rickson Gracie, 8th Degree Coral Belt. It teaches that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger assailant by using leverage and proper technique, most notably by applying Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a great way to equip very young children with the knowledge and skills to use their bodies and voice through structured and fun learning.

Our BJJ for littles focuses on movement, group interaction, and a gentle introduction to martial arts etiquette. Anti-bullying skills are woven into the work, and we teach confident posture, clear words and how to create distance without escalating a situation through safe training practices. If contact happens, students already know basic control and how to call for help, as everything is presented in a friendly setting—all with the camaraderie expected at Bujutsu.

Parents often notice practical changes within weeks, such as better listening, improved self confidence and fewer tears when plans change as we aim not to produce little champions, but to build calm, capable kids who understand boundaries and respect. Day by day, with steady coaching and predictable routines, we see anxious children settle and bold children learn restraint—they find composure under pressure—a lesson that serves them well at school, on the playground and at home and beyond.

Little Kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Martial Arts Training for Children

Ages 3 to 6 years

Bujutsu Martial Arts and Fitness Centre has also developed a BJJ class that caters for children aged 3 to 6 years.
Whilst our Kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes focus on teaching ground fighting skills, what makes our BJJ program different is the self-defence skills we teach. Not only do we teach the sport side of BJJ, but we also focus on teaching how BJJ can be used for self-defence purposes.
As well as building self-confidence and discipline, our classes build strength, fitness and co-ordination.
Our Kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program is led by Sensei Mark who has been involved in the martial arts industry since 1987.

Child Safety First

Anti-Bullying and Child Safety Program

Bujutsu Martial Arts and Fitness Centre does have a formal anti bullying and child safety program that takes a holelistic approach to tackling the problem of bullying.
Our Karate for Toddlers, Kids Karate, Kids Muay Thai Kickboxing and Kids BJJ classes teach children the following:
What bullying is
The effects bullying has on people
It is okay to say no
To use the phrase stop I don't like it
To walk away
To tell a teacher
To tell your parents
To step in when they see a friend being bullied
We encourage parents to talk to their children about what bullying is and what to do if it happens to them
We encourage parents to be good role models
To stay calm and always be polite
Not to be afraid to defend yourself if you have no choice
To only ever use the minimal amount of force necessary to save yourself from harm
To recognise that just because someone is bullying you, you do not have the right to physically harm them
Not to fall victim to peer pressure and get involved in the bullying of others
And of course, how to control and restrain people who attack them
We also teach children simple things like making sure they know mum and dad's mobile phone number
Stranger Danger
What to do if they are being followed home from school
What to do if they are approached by a stranger
Fire Safety issues are also covered, such as what to do if your house is on fire, what to do if your clothes catch on fire
Our martial arts programs are based on my many years of experience as a police officer and martial artist. Our program covers so much more than just how to kick and punch.

Benefits

Benefits of BJJ for Little Kids

Emotional Strength & Focus

Young children feel big emotions, but on the mats at Bujutsu Martial Arts, they learn to slow down, breathe and follow one instruction at a time. Our drills are short and specific, which helps hold attention. As routines become familiar, focus lengthens, frustration softens, and kids discover they can stay calm and finish what they start.

Confidence Without Aggression

Confidence grows from skill, not shouting, as BJJ teaches posture, eye contact and words before any technique. Children practise safe grips and controlled releases, learning they can protect themselves without hurting others. This ties directly into our Bully Proof Program, which gives them calm assurance to walk away from fights and handle pressure with confidence.

Fitness, Control & Coordination

Every class builds fitness through cardio conditioning, playful strength drills and toning exercises. Bear crawls, bridges, shrimps and safe stand-ups sharpen body awareness and balance. Repetition builds timing and control without strain. As coordination improves, falls are gentler, reactions sharper, and everyday tasks—running, climbing, sitting still—become easier and more confident.

Respect, Teamwork & Self-Defence

Classes open and finish with a bow, teaching the value of respect and good manners. Partners swap roles—one leads, one follows—so everyone learns patience and fair play. Layered into this is self-defence awareness: children practise restraint, control and safe responses that protect themselves while respecting others.
