Kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu - Martial Arts Training for Children (Gracie Lineage)

Bujutsu Martial Arts and Fitness Centre has also developed a BJJ class that caters for children aged  6 to 13.
Whilst our Kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes focus on teaching ground fighting skills, what makes our BJJ program different is the self-defence skills we teach. Not only do we teach the sport side of BJJ, but we also focus on teaching how BJJ can be used for self-defence purposes.
As well as building self-confidence and discipline, our classes build strength, fitness and co-ordination.
Our Kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program is led by Sensei Mark who has been involved in the martial arts industry since 1987.

The grades issued by Bujutsu are internationally recognised and in line with the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) Graduation System.

Kid's Martial Arts Programs

Our programs were developed by Sensei Mark, who is one of Australia. most experienced martial artists and was one of Australia highest-ranked police officers, having held the rank of Detective Superintendent Local Area Commander with the New South Wales Police Force.

Sensei Mark also worked as a Senior Youth Worker for 10 years and has been working with children for over 25 years.

Key Benefits

Benefits of Kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ)

CONFIDENCE TO STAND TALL

Confidence is a bully's biggest deterrent. Kids in BJJ build belief in themselves through skill progression and personal challenges. They learn to speak assertively, hold strong posture, and stay calm in uncomfortable situations-all of which help them stand up to bullies without resorting to aggression or fear.

RESPECT & HUMILITY

BJJ fosters mutual respect from day one. Kids learn to train with partners, listen to instructors, and stay humble regardless of skill level. This mindset promotes empathy and maturity, helping children manage social conflicts more peacefully and with emotional intelligence.

CONTROL WITHOUT VIOLENCE

Students are taught to control opponents without hurting them-key in handling physical bullying. By using technique over strength, children can defend themselves calmly and effectively, minimizing risk to both themselves and others. This non-violent approach aligns with real-world anti-bullying values and school safety guidelines.

EMOTIONAL STRENGTH
& RESILENCE

Through regular training, kids learn how to deal with stress, frustration, and fear. BJJ gives them a healthy outlet for emotions while building resilience the ability to recover quickly from setbacks. These mental tools are just as important as self-defense when facing bullying or peer pressure.

Child Safety First

Anti-Bullying and Child Safety Program

Bujutsu Martial Arts and Fitness Centre does have a formal anti bullying and child safety program that takes a holelistic approach to tackling the problem of bullying.
Our Karate for Toddlers, Kids Karate, Kids Muay Thai Kickboxing and Kids BJJ classes teach children the following:
What bullying is
The effects bullying has on people
It is okay to say no
To use the phrase stop I don't like it
To walk away
To tell a teacher
To tell your parents
To step in when they see a friend being bullied
We encourage parents to talk to their children about what bullying is and what to do if it happens to them
We encourage parents to be good role models
To stay calm and always be polite
Not to be afraid to defend yourself if you have no choice
To only ever use the minimal amount of force necessary to save yourself from harm
To recognise that just because someone is bullying you, you do not have the right to physically harm them
Not to fall victim to peer pressure and get involved in the bullying of others
And of course, how to control and restrain people who attack them
We also teach children simple things like making sure they know mum and dad's mobile phone number
Stranger Danger
What to do if they are being followed home from school
What to do if they are approached by a stranger
Fire Safety issues are also covered, such as what to do if your house is on fire, what to do if your clothes catch on fire
Our martial arts programs are based on my many years of experience as a police officer and martial artist. Our program covers so much more than just how to kick and punch.
